Suellen Vance is a multifaceted artist whose career spans acting, singing and writing as well as theatrical producing.
As an actor, Suellen appeared in John Gould Rubin’s 2010 sold out production of Hedda Gabler and co-wrote (with Music Director Rob LaRocco) and performed the solo show Dangerously in Love at the world famous Don’t Tell Mama’s. Other work includes playing a mob psychiatrist in the award winning comedy short Vinny Vino, a pirate spy in Seasons 1 and 2 of the campy web series Pirates vs. Hobos, and a daughter desperately struggling to reconnect with her aging father in the film AL. You can see or hear Suellen in numerous television and radio commercials including Blue Buffalo Dog Food, Yellow Tail Wine, Novasure and ESPN’s OntheLine.Org Campaign. Suellen has performed stand-up comedy all around New York City, including Caroline’s on Broadway, New York Comedy Club and the Laugh Lounge. As a singer, Suellen wrote, recorded and released the pun filled holiday classic Dear Mister Santa Claus (iTunes) which has been heard in more than 81 countries on the soap opera Passions and continues to be a holiday favorite. She recently collaborated as an actress with the graduate students of the Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing (Playwriting Lab) at NYU.
Her life as a writer began in broadcast journalism, which led her to work in several of the nation’s top 40 markets including Nashville, TN, Columbus, OH and Orlando, FL. During that time, she won a Best Reporting Award (Fathers and Children for Equality), and covered top stories such as Jesse Jackson’s 1988 Presidential Campaign (WBNS-TV), the execution of serial killer Ted Bundy (WCJB-TV), and the crash of United Flight 232 (WTVG-TV). As a producer, Suellen wrote and ran a daily 30-minute newscast at the NBC station in Toledo, OH (WTVG-TV) for two years and the CBS affiliate in Orlando, FL (WCPX-TV) for three years before making the transition back to the arts. Suellen also contributed to the story and story development of the multi-award winning new musical Central Avenue Breakdown,
Most recently, Ms. Vance executive produced and general managed the multi award winning New York premieres of Bayonets of Angst (2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival), Crossing Swords (2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival) and Central Avenue Breakdown (2011 & 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival). Central Avenue Breakdown is the first and only show to receive an Encore Presentation at NYMF (2012). The show also won The Daegu International Musical Theatre Festival Award. Ms Vance traveled with the cast and crew and premiered the in Daegu, South Korea in July of 2012. Other notable productions: NYMF 2014: Searching for Romeo, NYMF 2013: Swiss Family Robinson, The Pirates of Finance,God’s Country, Crossing Swords. Broadway: THE PEE WEE HERMAN SHOW ON BROADWAY, GODSPELL. Suellen is a member of AEA, ASCAP, SAG-AFTRA, TRU and an alumi of the Commercial Theater Institute's 3 day workshop.
